Indigenous Engagement

Alto, alongside the Government of Canada, is committed to reconciliation, and is making it a key priority. This commitment is grounded in the principles of engaging early and meaningfully, through constructive dialogue and nation-to-nation relationships with Indigenous peoples.

Working Together with Indigenous Peoples

We are dedicated to ensuring the involvement and participation of Indigenous communities across the project. This work is guided by the principles reflected in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action and is supported through four interconnected pillars that shape our approach to reconciliation and Indigenous participation.

Building Meaningful Relationships

with Indigenous communities, organizations, and institutions.

Creating Mutually Beneficial Socio-Economic Opportunities

with Indigenous Peoples and communities, including procurement and employment related to the network.

Fulfilling the Duty to Consult

and, where appropriate, accommodate, with the aim of securing free, prior, and informed consent.

Ensuring Financial and Legacy Participation

by developing co-designed proposals that promote economic benefits and the long-term participation of Indigenous communities.

Advancing Reconciliation

We will continue to ensure there is involvement at all stages of the project that will ultimately help empower Indigenous groups, create jobs and foster partnerships with communities and organizations as we work towards a shared prosperity.
